I had this problem with the ZETA version. Only worked when certain players were selected. It's in previous comments. AFAIK it was never acknowledged or fixed apparently. I haven't used ZETA in a while (or BeOS for that matter) but it appears as if it's situation normal!

I tested this with some mp3 files of the Haiku Podcast. The x-vnd.videolan-vlc beos_mime-entry does exist.
The strange thing is, that after opening the prefs panel and clicking save everything works like it should. VLC, RealPlayer or whatever gets opened and starts playing when I click the play button.
But when I restart BePodder, nothing happens when I click play until I repeat this "procedure".

What kind of file start realplayer ? if is an mp3 maybe you have realplayer like preferred application please open File Types in Preferences and set your player for MPEG audio file, BePodder ask the system which is the preferred.
Do you have x-vnd.videolan-vlc under /boot/home/config/settings/beos_mime/application ?
Thank you,
Giuseppe

Hi,
the problem's still there when the player is set to auto. After launching BePodder nothing happens when I click the play button. When I open the Prefs panel and click save it works (now in auto mode the realplayer gets startet).
I noticed theres a similar problem with the browser. Even if Firefox is selected, BePodder opens everything with NetPositive after launching BePodder. When I open the Prefs panel and click save again links are opened with Firefox.
I'm using BeOS 5.0.3 with the latest VLC (0.8.6) if this helps...

Thi is not normal maybe you have a bad VideoLAN installation or something else wrong. Try to reinstall VLC.
Also try to set Auto like default player.

Hi,
whenever I start BePodder, I have to open the Preferences panel (VideoLAN is the default player) and click save before I want to listen to some media files. If I click the play button without doing this, nothing happens...
So I guess the settings are stored correctly but they aren't applied after launching BePodder. Or is this a "feature" of the light version?

Right now the files are saved in the application directory.
This is not at all a multi-user solution.
Maybe a good place whould be in ~/podcasts (like ~/mail) but we really don't know when Zeta 1.5 will be released and how the multi-user will be implemented. We will see.. but we are aware of this and we will update the application as needed.
Thank you,
Andrea.

Since Zeta 1.5 is moving to a multi-user scheme, shouldn't the subscriptions be saved somewhere under the user's ~/config/settings directory rather than under boot/beos/apps/Internet/BePodder? Or is that the way it already is?

Ed,
I'm really sorry, but I think your file are gone.
Sad to say but we made a big error.
We miss to set the 'Never replace' option while making the Zeta pkg..
The package is now fixed and this should never happen again.
We will work on a more secure installer and a way to make a full backup of the archive.
Once again, sorry.
Andrea and Giuseppe.

one thing i find ackward is the play button, it's not starting a download automaticly if file not on PC yet, it make one manipulation more for nothing.
I really love how the help was implemented, very oldschool amiga like.
One feature that is sadly missing is a registration in BeOS sound notification panel so we can get a cue if a new registred item pop up.
Some format don't register proprely, for exemple .m4v are downloaded as style edit document.

It works fine if VLC is selected. If mediaplayer is default, it wont play both selecting and pressing play IN BePodder, and when clicking them in the folders. The program is launching the external programs just fine.

To test if VLC is installed and working open a Terminal ad type: "open application/x-vnd.videolan-vlc" (without quotes)
If this commnad doesn't open VLC then you have a bad installation or something else wrong. Try to reinstall VLC.

I use Zeta 1.1 with VLC 0.8.4.beta2. My default video player is Vlc so no problems to play the downloaded mpg4 files here.
The Zeta Media Player will not play some video files. I only use it for mp3.

Could you please report the ZETA version you use? (also the VLC version)
kancept: the problem is just when you press the 'play' button in BePodder or also when you double-click the file from the enclosures folder?
the_hUm: when you press the 'play' button in BePodder does VLC loads and then doesn't start playing or it never loads?
Thank you for your reports! I hope to fix them as soon as I get more details

I am unable to get any bepodder downloaded media to play in ZETA. They all play fine in VLC, but not in the Media player. Other MP3s do play fine in mediaplaer, however.

Hey there,
I am using BePodder daily from now on. The preset channels are very fine (Channel Frederator Episode No. 19 ;)
As a NewBe in XML, is it possible to get BeBits feeds with BePodder?
Last but not least, there must be a little mistake in the aboutbox, it says BePodder 0.1 and below: Version 1.0.

It looks like you have some problem with openssl (a library). Maybe you have and old version or wrong installation.
Try to install the newest version available: http://www.bebits.com/app/4317
