The usb_serial driver cannot build for Haiku yet, because it doesn't have a tty module.

BeMobile and Haiku

Actually I tried one of previous binaries with Haiku. I saw that in SVN they already have usb_serial driver imported, but this is not built for developer images. I don't have resources to rebuild Haiku on my own and test if usb_serial really works.

BeMobile should have no issues with Haiku.

i580 and Samsung P35 laptop

Help!

I downloaded the usb_serial driver and installed it.

When I try to open it gives me an error message:

Could not open 'usb_serial' with 'usb_serial'.
(Invalid argument)

The i580 is a pretty standard Motorola unit.

The laptop is a Samsung P35 with serial and USB ports.

Bemobile opens ok and only sees my serial ports.

Any help would be, well, helpful.

Do I need a serial to USB adapter?

L7 (i.e. SLVR) works

Works nicely, however, the battery status shows 20% while the phone says "4 of 6 bars".

I didn't get it to work before because I had forgotten to switch from memory card to Data/Fax connection in the Connection/USB settings ...

You have to install USB Serial Driver (from related links).

Then your phone will be accessible as serial port in /dev/ports/usb0. SerialConnect and BeMobile will show only usb0 as port name.

I don't know if this is related to my laptop or phones, but I have to plug the phone before booting BeOS. Otherwise it is not detected.

If you mean V3 RAZR, then yes it should work. This model is even mentioned here, on talkback page. In fact, I guess that all Motorola phones with USB connector are compatible and supported.

Stargater: thanks :).

It is possible that the two drivers somehow conflict each other. As you can read below in older comments, there are some problems with serial driver...

OK you're right. It's really an issue of the serialport driver! The driver connects for a second an then doesn't respond anymore (tested with serialconnect). I guess this caused BeMobile and my V3 to hang/lock.
Maybe the serialport driver doesn't like the mass storage driver?!?!?

BeMobile receives some Informations of my V3 (manufactor, name, software, etc...) but then the whole application hangs (can't use menus, etc...). The terminal window keeps on running and shows timeout errors like this one:
<--[AT+CBC]
-->[]
ERR: timeout

I've got successful RAZR report earlier. Please try using SerialConnect to send some 'AT' or 'ATZ' commands to check if this is issue with BeMobile or USB serial port driver.

Razr V3 hangs/locks

Hi,
I tried your app with my Razr V3 and BeMobile connected (via usb0). But somehow the main application hangs after a second (the terminal-window shows that some AT-commands are send, but they time out after a second or two).
After trying this a couple times my V3 didn't respond anymore, so I had to remove and re-insert the battery.

Double_S: I can't have a consistent plugin API until all pieces are in their place. But even now, everything is written with modularity in mind, so supporting new devices (as well as reusing e.g. Motorola engine to add something e.g. Siemens specific) will be easy.

P2K USB update: starting with USBKit and p2klib (moto4lin) I can't get it to work. On C550 it sometimes works, sometimes responds to every second query and sometimes just throw errors. With L6 it didn't succeed at all and finally locked the phone. Fortunately removing the battery and putting it back helped. For those courageous I will add my code and sources for p2k in next release. Maybe someone will figure it out.

Finally ;)

Finally an app to talk to mobile phones. I thought I was the only one interested in using his mobile/PDA together with BeOS.

Personally I have a Symbian based phone, so I do not know if this could work with this comunication protocol.

But it would be great if you can make your app "protocol modular", so that other developers could create just the "protocol" for Nokia, Siemens, Ericsson, Symbian, and well, actually PDA's as well (Palm OS 3, 4 ,5; Linux based PDA's, etc). Your GUI is perfect for all these other devices.

In the past there was a very good PDA management tool for BeOS, http://www.bebits.com/app/2456 & http://www.bebits.com/app/1654, but these do not support newer devices anymore (sigh...) and omicronsoft.com, after a very long support of the BeOS platform, finally had to refocus it's business to survive (just like GOBE).

REALLY?!

I am considering p2k, especially since there is an excellent free library for that (only Linux though). Unfortunately p2k relies on low-level (for me) USB communication so there is much to learn first.

kr1stof: Could you send me log from a sample session with SMS problems?

usb problems in zeta or r5?

Just SMS cannot be displayed for some reasons.
Unfortunately there are problems with USB (probably ZETA related USB-support(?) or maybe a faulty USB controller?).
Connecting to USB leads to KDL, booting with USB connected works, but just once. Closing & Starting the app once more gives errors.(?)

Anyway - good work and definitely something a lot of users have been waiting for - Thanks!
