Hi Darkwyrm,

- yes, the help-app had to be recompiled, which we did in the meantime
- printing: we can reproduce this poblem and we will work on it with the help of the yab-creator
- the problem you are having with loading the preferences should also be fixed now
- I can't follow you with the date seperator; when you change it in the settings, it's used app-wide (I checked it again). Maybe it has to do with your broken preferences? Please try next version of MyBudget when it's ready or try to create a new account to see if the problem's still there.
- for the first, icons will remain; the home symbol is meant to be a bank, where you normally have your money :-) But I understand your point of view.
- the loadaccount panel is set to modal, therefore you can't take it to another workspace. I don't think that is a real bug; it's a restriction :-)
-apps should use the system-fonts, they are there to be used; so, if someone wants to use the Euro symbol, he has to choose a font which is capable of showing it
- since build 375 the user can choose the position of the currency, before and after the amount.

Thanks you a lot for your report. For developers feedback is a good motivation. Most of the reported bugs are fixed, so keep on waiting for the new build :-)

Florian

Found a bunch of bugs

Genuinely curious about MyBudget, I tried the thing out as soon as there was an R5 compatible version. I ran into a number of issues in trying it out under Max Edition.

- The Help button doesn't work. MyBudgetHelp has not been recompiled like MyBudget has, so it still links against libzeta and won't run under R5. I did try the demo under Zeta 1.1 and I like the searchable help. That's a really nice feature. :^)

- I can't print any reports. Clicking on anything in the menu of the Print window doesn't do anything.

- Every time I start the program and tell it to load an account, it tells me that it can't load the settings file for some reason. If I type in just the owner, it loads all the financial data just fine, though. It doesn't matter how many times I re-enter the settings, MyBudget can't load them.

- You can choose a date separator in the Account preferences, but periods are used in the dates shown in the program regardless.

- The toolbar icons are confusing. While using coins to represent money is a good idea and the other icons used are familiar ones, they don't translate well into what the buttons do. At first try, I honestly didn't have a clue what the Open Account button did. The tooltips are what let me figure out what each one did.

- As one developer to another, why is the Load Account window constrained to just the workspace that is opened on? The main window isn't -- just the account window.

- You might want to check the family of the system font on startup. While not the default system font on Max edition, Swis 721 BT Roman is the default for plain-vanilla Personal Edition and Pro Edition installs and it doesn't have a Euro symbol.

- At least here in the US, dollar signs go before the amount, not after.

I might be a 'competitor' of sorts, but I would like to see MyBudget succeed, so I thought I'd pass along my first impressions in using it. It's got potential. :^)

recurent entry

I did try the R5 one, found no bug.

first, the logo in yellow, it's bad, i mean beshare icon bad :P

One thing that miss a lot from this is automation. I don't see a way to interface to it (event notification and perhaps acting like a daemon?). Let say send me a message/email when my acount is at rent price - 1$.

Category should include a recurent check box, that would expend or unghost a feild asking for the periodicity and the end date of the recurent entry.

Other than that it's nice start. Very lean.

R5 version now available

The BeOS version is now available, see download section or our website at http://www.flojo-soft.com.
The BeOS version should also work on Zeta 1.1.

Not that I'm a gambling man, but I'd bet good money that it won't -- MyBudget won't even run on Zeta 1.1. :/

lemme know if you need a screenshot of it.

As for not running on Dano0, have you tried the fake libzeta trick? just create a file called libzeta.so in your libs folder. I've found many apps for zeta run in dano0 with just the prescence of that file. They don't use anything from it in these cases, but the zeta compiler builds against it. Worth a shot. I don't have a dano0 system running atm or I'd try it myself.

I think the fact that MyBudget doesn't work on Dano (although ZETA is based on Dano) is caused by the fact that there are several tools delivered with ZETA, which are not with Dano. And of course some libs, that have been introduced with ZETA (libzeta f.e.).

The most convenient thing of ZETA compared to all other BeOS versions is that there are some things, some kind of standards within the system. The folder-structure in the menu, the tools which are surely included and so on.
Therefore it is always a little harder to make a BeOS version than one for ZETA, without giving a hint for downloading some extra tools or delivering them directly (which is also a question of rights sometimes).

But the R5 version should run on every other BeOS system as well. It isn't localized of course, but I guess most can live with that ;)
I expect the R5 version to be done by next week.

For the graphic bugs: Will check that next week. The space is regarded to the font size of the system plain font...

So long and thanks for testing and your response :)

You've missed the point of my post. I was simply noting that the zeta-only version does not work on a Dano version BeOS. Since Zeta is a "legal" flavor of Dano, I thought I'd give it a try and let people know.

We can have a long and nasty discussion about the legality of a Dano or Bone system some other time. But you ought to know that a number of BeOS users were legally authorized to install and run a Bone/Dano system. Long before anyone ever heard of YellowTab

I've found a visual bug, and it, um, bugs me. In the statistic tab, the start date and end date buttons are cut off. Even resizing the window doesn't help, it's still cut in half by the border for the Info box.

Another one, albeit less annoying, is the currency symbol is on the wrong end of the value. I know euros are at the end, but the dollar sign should PREcede the dollar amount for us in the US.

Other than that, great work. I'll be buying it. I'm using ZETA 1.2sp3 if that's pertinent, with screen running @ 1280x1024.

"A Dano enhanced BeOS is not legal, therefore we don't have such a system."

And you're not very cool for saying that. Have you ever crossed the street without using a crosswalk ? That's also illegal, so you shouldnt do that.

directory and Dano

Hi RepairmanJack, as this is the Zeta Version, it is not meant to run under BeOS (BeOS version will follow soon). A Dano enhanced BeOS is not legal, therefore we don't have such a system.
Every Zeta installation has a /boot/apps/Office directory, if you like, you can move it from there. The BeOS installation will have /boot/apps as install path.

thaflo

Not everyone has a boot/apps/Office directory. Consider allowing us to install this application wherever we want in our directories.

No Luck with Dano

Just FYI, it doesn't work with Dano-enhanced Be installs either.
