I'm not even sure there are 100 games and applications for such a list! The SAM arrived a little too late for much commercial interest, with many companies switching to the 16-bit machines by that point. The most well-known titles are probably: Lemmings, Prince of Persia, Manic Miner and Defenders of the Earth. Screenshots of those and others are on the main site (or the Screens link on the left of the BeBits page).

If you have the time, I'd recommend browsing around the FTP archive of disk images here:
ftp://ftp.nvg.ntnu.no/pub/sam-coupe/disks/

Here are a few specific titles probably worth a look:

The Entropy Experience - a compilation of typical SAM demos:

Amiga MOD player - on the Parallel tab in the SimCoupe options, set port 1 to "Stereo EDdac/SAMDAC", and use the default "samdac" playback device when it boots.

SAM Juggler - pre-rendered animation. Hold + on the numeric keypad to skip through the intro if you want to get to the main animation.

i have no time to code on more project, but i could compile (R5) for you if all is only a "make" to type.

On the simcoupe, does is have must have exclusive game or special ultimate port version? Perhaps a top 100 list of app would be cool. I always liked to read about that computer but like many i never owned one.

AlienSoldier:

I'd offer to help out where I can, but my hardware setup is very limited at the moment. Most of the emulator development was done on my old PC, which ran BeOS R5 very well. My current P4 system won't even run BeOS or Zeta, no matter which combination startup options I use. I actually did the 1.0 build and testing in VMware player with limited framerate and no sound!

I'm still waiting for Zeta driver support to catch up with my hardware, though there's always a risk I will have upgraded to yet more incompatible hardware by then. I try to keep my main PC compatible, but since I don't use BeOS as my main OS it's not always possible.

BeOS Mr X:

The SAM Coupé is a home computer with a full keyboard rather than a games console with limited buttons, so the choice of keys (and ability to redefine them) is down to each software title. The 6/7/8/9/0 keys in Tetris must seems particularly odd, but they're what SAM joystick port 1 generates for left/right/down/up/fire. They really do come through as keystrokes, rather than being provided from a dedicated joystick I/O port.

Currently the only emulator control over keyboard input is for symbol mappings. When you press a combination like Shift-9 for a '(' symbol on your PC, SimCoupe maps that to be Shift-8 in the emulator, which is the key combination needed to generate the same symbol on the SAM. If you change the mapping type to None in the Input option, Shift-9 will be used raw and generate a ')' instead.

It'd be hard to provide general key mapping options in the emulator without completely breaking input in other areas (such as BASIC on startup). It'd also vary between games, and probably be more trouble than it was worth.

I've made a note to allow more configuration on the joystick side, so it doesn't have to be mapped on to the SAM joystick port. With modern joysticks having many more buttons, it might even be enough to handle the larger key set needed for Defender! Unless different key configurations can be saved it'll still have the problem of changing between games though...

okay

Well, what a buggered key map scheme anyhow. Thanks for the advice.

this is a quality emu, tempted to port another SDL one? Or even better update the Native BeMame one?.

You're surprised that the emulator documentation only documents the emulator? Well there's a surprise! I couldn't find out how to use my toaster in it either - useless!

Tetris does happen to tell you the keys in the scrolling message, if you'd care to read it. Or am I getting the feeling you're just trolling for fun? :-)

Just for you, here are all the keys for the supplied disks:

Manic Miner
-----------

Left: Q,E,T,U,O,6
Right: W,R,Y,I,P,7
Jump: Space, 0

Defender
--------

Up: Q
Down: A
Reverse: P
Thrust: O
Fire: K
SmartBomb: Space
Hyperspace: H
Pause: F9 (Numpad-9 in emulator)
Quit: Esc
1 Player Start: 1
2 Player Start: 2
Redefine Keys: K

Tetris
------

Left: 6
Right: 7
Down: 8
Pause: 9
Rotate/Start: 0

MNEMOdemo
---------

Next Demo Part: Space

HOw Am I going to play it when the keys do not work? the only things that work is keys 1-0 on under the Fkeys or the fkeys themselves for the emulator settings. Something like the number key 5 and 6 control the blocks, everything else is either for the emulator it self or doesnt do anything. How fustrating it is that the readme could be so ignorant as to NOT include simple instructions on how to play a the tetris game (BUT everything else, that I will never want to use it seems) I went in the settings under input, I don't see anything on setting the keys. Nothing works as it should or I wanted it too. You're fustrating me with a piece of software that has potential. ARGGGGGGGGGGGhhh!!!!!!!
