>will this run on Haiku in future?
As stated on the oakbits web site, this will be my next "big step". It can't run as is on haiku because some parts are specific to the netstack and the kernel, but I will port these to haiku.

>the program is really beautiful!
Thanks. One of the reasons it took so much time since v1.1 is that I prefered to spend more time to do things the right way. So I am pleased that some people like the result!

in future

This should come soon now. Everything is not working well yet. I hope to get a first usable test release for the end of the month.

Don't worry, you will know when something is ready :)

Yes. I would like to end up with a complete firewall system but this will take some time. Before this there are a lot of features to add: localization, filtering options, and logging are the first ones.

>oh and it vas not visio (spending to much time in windows)it was vision but the problem are gone :)
ok.

Done. I updated the page. thanks.

>Now we're confirmed 100% that there is not going to be a BONE version.
I am not a lawyer and I do not want to risk troubles because of this. Moreover I write this software in my spare time and I first want to make it work well on one system before spending some time to make it available on other ones.

>We're on BeOS. You really have to look into the relevancy of having a firewall-type application in the first place.

I want to write such a software for several things:
1- Improve my network knowledge. BeOS is a good os for this because there is no such software yet.
2- I suppose that you say this soft is not needed because BeOS only have few network apps running, and no known malwares. I really hope that in the next few years BeOS will become more popular. Then my tool will probably be usefull.

good excuse

Now we're confirmed 100% that there is not going to be a BONE version. We're on BeOS. You really have to look into the relevancy of having a firewall-type application in the first place.

An R5+bone version should be quite easy to compile. I use only few Zeta specific methods for the moment. However there is currently no commercial app designed for R5+bone and I am afraid that this may due to legal reasons.

So for the moment I will keep on a zeta only release, and I follow closely the evolutions of haiku.

BONE version

Hey,
Is there any chance of this working on R5+BONE systems as it stands?
If not, have you considered porting it to that platform? I'd guess that there's quite a few R5 users who are running BONE or on the verge of switching to it, so it may be worthwhile in terms of potential audience.

Now, if something similar could be written that prevents apps from accessing the hard disk, BeOS security could be perfect...

To thaflo1: Yes I though about this, but for future releases. For the moment NetLock Monitor just allows to grant or deny global network access. Firewall features may come later.

To Finn: I will obviously make a haiku version as soon as it will be stable enough. For the moment it is to early since the network stack just begins to be rewritten.
Unfortunatelly I will not do a R5 version. The filtering mecanism of NetLock Monitor is based on bone. I can not spend a lot of time to port it on netserver, which should disappear soon once everybody will switch to zeta or haiku.

Hi,

will there be a R5/Haiku version?

Brilliant!

I don't know if you already thinked about it, but with NetLock access is granted to an application, so, one time allowed to an app, it can open multiple ports, where NetLock doesn't control anymore what's happening. So I suggest, also to control the ports; I allowed the im_server to connect, but I didn't allow the single protocols/ports to do so. Maybe is an idea, to lock/control the ports, too.

Florian

thanks

Thanks to all of you.
As the name imply I hope that there will be only few bugs in this release. In this case the final one may be ready for september.
Otherwise it will probably take some more time.

To ModeenF: When you say visio, where can I find this app ? I tried vision (irc client) and it works well so I suppose it is another app.

Romain.
