computer music, made on a music 'tracker' and uses chip-emulation to playback the files. Try playing some recent ones from here
http://keygenmusic.net/?page=pack/packlist&lang=en
Lately I have been converting my chiptunes to mp3 and playing them, as it works the best this way, but it takes a long time to go from .wav and then .mp3 ! We need a player that plays chiptunes on beos perfectly, like we have mp3 players.

What exactly do you mean with modules? For me a module is a part of something.
So...do you mean different windows (player, EQ, playlist, etc...) like in CL-Amp, or Plug-Ins (like visualization) or additional codecs to play unsupported audio/video files???
Tell me more! I am actually collecting ideas to create my development focus for V0.4 (after a little break of some weeks)

I'm looking for something like XM-Play for BeOS that does not suck. APlayer is great but as soon as you start multitasking while listening to music every time the cpu goes 100% the sound playback in a-player goes sporadic unless the priority is changed to real-time. And CL-Amp playback of mudules is not entirely accurate and sounds wrose, not better than APlayer. Jukebox does really look good, but I'm still sticking with CL-Amp until I find a new app that works as good or better - and with modules.

This feature isn't implemented right now (I tried, but it is really tricky).
To move jukebox to another workspace, press "t" to enable the window tab. Now click the tab and hold the mouse button while you press F1, F2, ...
This uses the build in workspace-changing-methods of BeOS/Zeta/Haiku and not the Jukebox methods.
P.S.: There are many other things, which actually don't work like they should:
- the whole video functionality (seeking, stability)
- moving the window under Haiku
- drawing of the progressbar under Haiku
- the mp3 tagger doesn't recognize all id tags correctly
- the drawing code of the scalable background image is very ugly (I am really wondering why it works this good)
- etc...
That's why Jukebox is still V0.3 and not V1.0 ;)

Hey everyone,
I'm sorry that such a long time passed by since my last activities in the BeOS scene. I was in Belgium for about one month and have a new job which takes most of my time.
This means I can't spend that much time in developing Jukebox as I would like to. So I decided to move the release of V0.3 to the end of december (would be a nice x-mas gift...or?)
The video functionality is still very experimental, but it works well enough to watch some short music videos. Therefore I will enable this feature in V0.3 allready.
Another great feature in V0.3 will be a RESIZABLE Jukebox window. This means I rewrote allmost the whole application, implemented a parser for mathematical formulas (so the items can be placed depending on the window width/height) and redesigned the skins.
To make life a bit easier for creating new skins, the skin configuration files got simplified a little bit. I renamed some variables and colors are now defined in one single line (and not one line for every RGB value).
Right now I am busy with the final tests on V0.3 and I think an x-mas release should be possible ;-)
So...stay tuned and have a look at the new screenshots gallery to get an impression of V0.3

Many things happened during the last couple of weeks, so I guess it's time to post some news about me and this project.
about the features in V0.3:
I implemented and tested most of the features I wanted to put into V0.3. Well, actually all the features except of playing mp3-streams. It's really much more work, than I expected...
some plans/ideas for future versions:
There allready is a working Interface for the last.fm online-radio (works really nice, but it still needs CL-Amp to play the stream).
Last week I played the first mpeg video with Jukebox. Yessss, a video! It's not really syncronized with the audio track and sucks a lot cpu power, but I guess it's a good start for a nice feature in V0.4 or 0.5.
V0.2 skins:
I've just uploaded an orange/red version of the base skin. It's called sunset.zip and you can find it in the related links section. To install this skin, just drag n drop the zip-file to the skin panel - that's it.
If someone of you made a nice skin for Jukebox please post the url here or send me an e-mail, so I will put the skin on my webserver and add a download link.
terres rouges:
Last week I went to the "Terres Rouges" festival in Luxembourg (just about 50 miles away from here) and saw some really nice bands there. But one artist impressed me like noone else: Pink!
I've allready seen douzends of live-concerts but I have to say: you really have the see this lady performing live on stage!!!
bebits app of the month:
Woohooo! Last saturday I listened to the latest haiku podcast (http://haikupodcast.com/) and yeesss Jukebox is BeBits App of the Month!
Thanks for this award (just watched the MTV VMA's...hehe)!
So...these were my more or less important news ;)
Mmmmmmore to come...

Jukebox actually ignores anything in a playlist that's not a valid file. So comments beginning with an "#" shouldn't have any effect in V0.2.
I use the Windows software CDex to convert my CDs into mp3s. CDex automatically creates a .m3u-playlist for me which works just perfectly with Jukebox.
You could also add the titles of an album to the playlist, sort them and then save it as a .m3u-playlist.
@s_d: thanks for this info! Another reason why the QuickSort algorithm for V0.3 was a good idea ;)

Regarding .m3u playlists, it would be wise to allow Jukebox to accept the "extended" format as used in Winamp, ie.:
#EXTM3U
#EXTINF:326,Artist - Track Name
somefile.mp3
#EXTINF:260,Artist - Track Name
anotherfile.mp3
Just skip over those # lines :)

Actually they aren't in general, I met that problem when worked on BeAndSee application and used Be API to get dir listing. Even had some discussion about it at BeDevTalk. Thus also was forced to use my own sorting - for BFS.

The M3U-files must hava a lower case ".m3u" in this version.
playlist.m3u should work
playlist.M3U won't!
The content of the playlist should look like this:
title1.mp3
title2.mp3
title3.mp3
or like this:
/boot/home/mp3/artist/album/title1.mp3
/boot/home/mp3/artist/album/title2.mp3
About the progressbar bug: does this happen with mp3s which are encoded with variable bitrate?
Jukebox uses the system decoders of BeOS (or Zeta or Haiku) and they seem to hate VBR files.

Hi,
I guess you stored your music files on a FAT-device...right?
I found out, that files on a BFS formated disk are sorted by filename, but files on a FAT device aren't (I guess your right with the creation time).
I allready implemented a sorting algorithm (QuickSort) for all the lists. It seems to work just fine and it's very fast - so this bug will be fixed in V0.3!
bugfixes and new features in V0.3 will be:
- QuickSort for artist-, album- and titlelist (done - needs some testing)
- some missing repaints (done)
- Haiku freezes when dropping files at the playlist (found the bug, but don't really know why it happens!)
- search for subfolders in the title folder
- adding URLs to the playlist (done)
- playing streams (needs a lot of work)
- after adding a skin Jukebox should wait until unzip is finished (done)
- I guess some more...

I second salva's need for double album folder support.
Also, any chance to have Jukebox sort the entries by filename per default?
I use the following scheme to store my mp3s:
Artist\Album\xx - TrackName.mp3
where xx is of course the track number.
So it would be nice if Jukebox didn't listed those sorted by file's creation datetime (current behavior).
Thanks for your work.

Hi and thanks for your comments!
1.) Jukebox looks for a file which ends with .m3u (lower case) in the title folder. Maybe you named some playlists .M3U?
(I guess I will allow .M3U files in the next version)
2.) Yes...this application still uses a 3 folder-system (artist/album/titles). But I'm allready working at something, that will fix this.
I sort albums with several CDs like this:
artist/album (disc 1)/titles
artist/album (disc 2)/titles
so I didn't design Jukebox to search for sub-folders in the title folder.
3.) Hmmm...that's a really strange bug! I don't have this Problem with R5, Zeta 1.2.1 or Haiku (my 3 test systems). So I guess Zeta 1.5 handles some method calls in a different way.

Here some bugs:
1) I have some directories with M3U that Jukebox doesn't recognize.
2) If you have a double album, with two subdirectories, Jukebox will not recognize the files (CD1 and CD2 subdirectories, for example)
3) If you make click over the progress bar song you will be able to go to the time you want, but the bar will restart from begin to run.

Hi
this application still uses a three-folder-system in jukebox mode (artist/album/titles). I guess most people sort their music collection like this.
I allready started to work at V0.3, which will have lists with some more functionality. Maybe I can implement something that also displays the content of subdirectories.

Feel free to send me an e-mail or so if you have any questions about the new skin format.
btw:
The new skin system automatically uses parts (pictures, colors and positions) of the base skin if the actual skin is incomplete or damaged (or deleted before you start Jukebox).
You can drop a new skin (example.zip for example) on the skin panel and Jukebox unzips the archive to the skin directory.
Be carefull when uninstalling skins. You can't restore them! In the next Version uninstalled skins will be moved to the Trash (when I found out how this mechanism works...).

But the chance that an mp3 file has an id tag like this is about 1 to 100000 (or less) - so you should really try to win something in the lottery ;-)

Hi,
this seems to be a problem of my mp3tagger. I'm using a 200GB WD-harddisk with usb-adaptor to store my media files and Jukebox doesn't have any problems with that.
So I guess there's at least one mp3 file within that folder, which has a strange id tag (which caused the segment violation).
You can open the folder with the Tracker and drop some files on the playlist. Now one file should cause this segment violation again. Maybe you could try to find this file, open it with DiskProbe (right click -> open with... -> DiskProbe) and send me a screenshot via e-mail. This would help me to find the reason for the crash (I tested Jukebox with several 1000 mp3 files, but this didn't happen...).

I like them (even if I prefer some darker colors which fit better to my desktop).
Oh just by the way: when you create a skin, please add the Jukebox-version it's designed for in the description-text (something like: designed for Jukebox V0.1). The skin-system will change in the following version (some new features will be implemented and I try to simplify the .cfg-files a bit). So using a V0.1 skin with the v0.2 Jukebox could cause some (very) strange behavior.
I will try to implement as many features as possible and so some will be without any functionality. But I hope this makes sure the skin-system won't change in the following versions (I don't think someone wants to create a skin for an application that will change every couple of weeks).
btw...I added some skin downloads in the "related links"-section of the Jukebox page (special thanks to Bardulas who created them!!!). Screenshots are also updated!
P.S.: To use other skins, download them and extract them into the skins directory. After starting Jukebox, they should appear in the skin list.
