ok, i tried on a zeta 1.2 without any xraydock installed before... as you said, it doesn't work ! i don't know why yet... but, after i tested the zeta version, i closed it, and then i restarted it and it works now... probably a settings file access problem at first launch or a missing initialisation in the xraydock code. try this and tell me.

hi ataphas,
i wondered if you have a file panel that open when you click on the add button ? (the drag n drop doesn't work on the button on the left, you can use the drag n drop after adding a first icon)

Won't

I don't know, none of the updated builds won't work on my zeta1.2 I made sure I did a clean install in each instance.

Still Yet

hi andrea,
first, before publishing the source, i would like to do some improvments by myself : i did this app by pleasure, and to write a nice little app by myself.
then, the code would have to be cleaned (really !!!!), i'm not a professional coder, i'm writing using the basis from when i was writing in basic on my CPC 464 ! i learned some C and C++ by myself, i would love to learn it in a school, but my life was different : in conclusion, before giving the source, i'll have to comment and clean it just a little to help the users to read and use it. I hope to do this as soon as i can : i actually try to work on the app a few minutes by days.
regards,
etno

2.0 beta2 is available. corrected an ugly flashing effect under the icons that i didn't see.
beta version support many new things, like drag n drop, and some little new options.

so, i would say : wait for the next release... it will be available soon (full drag n drop support, smooth resizing, backup of icons etc...)
just a question : how do you use it ?
on the version you tested, first you have to add an icon (with the bottom left button), choose a picture file (prefer the icones i joined). now , if it works, you may have an icon on the desktop.
if you have it, click on the right button on your mouse, and choose an app)

which alpha version did you test ? it is perhaps buggy. i have not a lot of time to test my binaries so...

the way i use to launch apps is perhaps not very good.... i think for example that for firefox, you have to set the shortcut to firefox-bin, not to the script called firefox. (if i remember)

Yes I used the one before, and I deleted config file. And yes I can see the settings etc. but it doesn't work when I try and set an application it doesn't see the binary to launch it. Unless it changed. I assume it was like the other one?

don't you see any button in the left bootom of the screen, and do you see xraydock opened in the deskbar ?
then, can you see a file named sysinit in /boot/home/config/settings/XRAYDock ?
did you use the first version of xraydock (1.0 or 1.1) before ? if yes, you should delete this config file.

i badly commented a line of the source code, so the shortcuts couldn't be saved.
now fixed in alpha3, and added a shortcut string when the mouse is on the icon.
follow the links on the xraydock bebits page or here :

buttons

Current version when comment was posted: 2.0 alpha d5.1
yes, hide the buttons on the left is in project, not available in this alpha version. a lot of other things are in project like detecting running apps, add a real preference icon, undeletable, not just a button on the left, and some known bugs have to be corrected

I like this app

hmm, i don't think it could work on haiku at this haiku level development... i must have a look at the Haiku code ! it is based on a dano specific function, so it can run on Zeta and Dano, not on original R5. I hope it will run one day on Haiku, it would give me a very good reason to work on this app.

Haiku ?

i've just tested it with globe webeditor, and the clock included with the OS, and all is working fine there (zeta 1.5): globe starts with the dock and without. i didn't notice this problem when i ran 1.2.
anybody else with the bug mentioned below (perhaps with other apps)?

bug

i didn't know this bug, i'll have a look on it and see if it appears on my zeta and what may be wrong. anyway i will not correct it cause i wrote a (totally) new version of xraydock since i lost the sources of the first release, but i could see if the new release is buggy.

I was able to fix it. But this is a serious bug with the application. I don't know if this does this to any other apps. so far not.

After trying this on zeta1.2, my apps Globe and the clock no longer work. Was able to get globe back up and running after replacing settings from backup. But the clock under the system folder won't start up. Any idea how to fix?

R5

hi
with the actual code, xraydock will not run (and compile) in R5 net_server. i add some partitions on my hard drive to reinstall 5.1 (on which it would probably build) and r5 to see if i can do something.
thanks

Hi etno,

Watched the video of your upcoming XRayDock and it looks really great. That's what I wanted to accomplish with BeDock, but yours does true transparency !!!

Please, please try to make it work on BeOS R.5 net_server.

Thanks,
hey68you

R5 - R5.1 - ZETA ?

Unfortunatelly, i may not build XRayDock for R5 (actually) due to a missing function in the API, but i can study it. It may compile on R5.1, if i modify the code, i'll have a look if i can find some space on my hard drive :-] .

looks really cool

But can you get it to work under R5 ? I really like apps that use cool effects. For example certain keygens in windows with fading out when closed, designed window outlines that aren't just rectangular.
