delete all the cache files. mail-it puts one in every directory inside of ~/mail/
when mail-it doesn't exit right the cache files get corrupted and it won't work until the cache files are valid.
sometimes there is a problematic email that will crash mail-it everytime you try to read it. you must delete this email from tracker and then all the cache files before you start mail-it up again.

Mail-It has no future for it. Although it has some features that other mailers don't I recommend people to at least try the open-source Scooby. If you are a developer with time and knowledge about email, consider contributing to it, and perhaps integrating it with the mail daemon replacement.

I don't know what the other user was complaining about: this app loads in about 5-10 seconds on my Pentium 200 MHz. It also has a lot of nice options that have smoothed the transition from Windows/Outlook98 to BeOS/Mail-It. Good app!

For those of us that plan on making BeOS the main OS of our computers Mail-it v.3 takes us one step closer the Windows delete button that we want so badly. This program does everything the average computer users needs. This is a program that should be part of the BeOS package and not something we have to surf the web to find. BeMail is years behind and that is where it should stay. Mail-it is the mail client that will bring more people into the BeOS family to stay. We need more applications like this. Thank God for Mail-it!
Best Regards,
Dr. Gary

I can't believe they made a BeOS program that takes nearly a minute to load on an Athalon 700! It does do a couple of things well. The People interface is still better than Postmasters - but it is actually clunkier than the previous version of Mail-It.
The other area it beats Postmaster is in offering 3 ways to encode file attachments, and in being better able to change mail servers for smtp on the fly. In every other way Postmaster is faster, more versatile and just better than this monster.

If you look at the bar graph of reviews, it seem that there is 1530 ficticious votes..
If you look at the curve it seems that Mail-It should get a 9.2 rating with 103 votes.
This would make it THE best rated software on BeBits with OpenTracker comming in second with 9.08

I'm not much for reviewing so I'll just blurt it out. Version 3.0 has lots of neat features and is very usable. If they were taking money for it, they would have had mine. Explore it while using right clicks. See if you can find the smiley tool.
I simply do not understand the low rating it has received.

I'm really kind of suspicious about the 1500 votes that say mail-it sucks.
Because it doesn't.
Mail-it has always been a good mailer, albiet with some annoying bugs. This revision seems to have fixed the big one - that the index gets out of sync when you delete messages quickly. It also handles enclosures more gracefully. Mail-it puts all the features from the likes of eudora and outlook express in a clean, easy to use package with none of the glop of either of those two mailers. The filtering is as good as unix ELMs and infinately easier to set up. I still use ELM for my primary mailer, but when I am dealing with an enclosure or something beos specific, mail-it is THE way to go.
