Summon Stopped Working
 By Jess - Posted on August 8, 2006 - 18:25:56   (#20337)

I just had Summon Stop working, I read the posts here tried them, nothing. So I tried to run Summon from a terminal, blam, works fine. Summon only dies (with no errors) from Tracker, I deleted my tracker and deskbar (for good measure) settings and dropped the machine hard so it had no chance to save/sync the current settings, on reboot Summon woks again.

So for anyone that has Summon start a terminal only to dissapear as soon as it displays in the Tracker running apps list, this is a way to fix it.

was having the same problem, deleted .profile from /boot/var/tmp , the saved one, and then the .profile in /boot/home/ . Now the message is gone!

Summon restores the original .profile from /tmp/.profile.save. Normally it should remove that after exiting, but when something went wrong it may be trying to restore from there again.

Thanks, Diver.

I deleted .profile, but when I invoke Summon again, it rewrites .profile with these lines:
cd /boot/home
/bin/rm -f /boot/home/.profile

Did you tried to delete /boot/home/.profile?

No matter what folder I'm working in when I try to envoke summon, I get:
sh: /boot/home/.profile: cannot execute binary file

Please -- how do I fix this?

i did not try with &, but here it does not work if a dir have a ' in it's name. In that case the terminal open at default location.

Feature request

I have two of them:
1. If file was selected while calling Summon add-on copy filename to Terminal.
2. Add ability to drop files on the add-on if Summob executible is on (for example) Desktop with [1] feature.

Thanks.

Great tool, but ... the files should be in a dir summon within summon.zip to follow beos app distribution standard.

Thank you ...

PowerPC version available

Okay - due to popular request, I have hooked up my trusty old BeBox (which has 32M RAM by the way - less than my x86 machine's _video card_ :-) and compiled Summon for PPC. It's available from the Summon page on BeBits.

Pleaze

PPC Version

I have been using my BeBox lately and would also like to see a PPC binary of Summon. If you drop enough memory into a BeBox, they're not too bad.

Yes, please...

Good to see BeBoxes getting used...and I would love to have a PPC version of this addon. Thanks in advance! :o)

Thanks for the report! 0.92 is on BeBits now, and it works with &, <, and > characters in the path.
If people still want a PPC version, I can compile it on my BeBox too.

It doesn't work properly if the directory name has & in it.

almost as functional as TermHire

This application works quite well. Unlike TermHire it doesn't require a change to the .profile. However, it doesn't follow symbolic links. I recommend TermHire if you want to traverse symbolic links.

BTW, there is some app called "Terminal Here" that is not the same thing as TermHire. TermHire has source and is also compiled for PPC. For some odd reason TermHire is also not listed as a bebits "add-on". Find it at the link above.

Does exactly what it says on the tin.

Works great - and really handy. I didn't give it 10/10 because one thing it could benefit from is a symbolic link to the 'addons' folder you have to copy it to manually, to make installation super-easy.
