If this app is working in its actuall version 3.34 we would have all what a professional app needs. You can do great 3-D artwork and use them in your video files. Blender has its own video sequencer where you are able to cut your videos and even use transitions and Pictuer files for the background. Animated text is very easy to do with it.
Hope some Programmer out there is trying to port it. He would be a Hero for BeOs till then.
If you dont belive me just try Blender on every other Operatin System and see how it works. The BeOs Versin 2.11 is far behind. It would be necessary to have great knowledge about Mesa and Open GL cause these are the keys to get Blender work for BeOs. I know there are some people out there still trying to port it but without much success until now. So they might need some helping hand. Maybe you are the one who like to become famous to the BeOs Community. Try to get Blender work. You will surely benefit from it.

Replacing libGL.so from a previous version of Zeta fixed Blender except for the looping at close/quit.
Just have to close Terminal instead, should be no big deal.

Any idea what all is going to need done? I know we won't likely get even an 'almost new' ver. for a while yet, but I haven't gotten a clear answer yet as to what's standing in the way. Even Linux is having troubles with the newest, but it sure would be nice to have Blender 4 BeOS a little more up to date.

You have a Mesa's libGL.so overriding the BeOS R5's
libGL.so.
Try to disable Mesa's libGL.so, which should be in ~/config/lib/libGL.so most probably. Rename it to disable.
I'm the one to blame for not having (yet, as said ;-)) implemented CopyPixelsIn/Out() methods in Mesa BeOS port :-(
Just added it on top of the TODO list...
> We'll need some help from yt on this one.
Unless you're using Zeta, I can't see how and why they should care about this issue...

The new Blender will not work, you're stuck with the old for now. I keep asking, but they've got their hands full with the rest of it right now. Haiku (OBOS) is being watched and could very well make a difference.

It looks like it has something to do with GL
I installed python 1.5.2 and got it to stop looping
From terminal I get the following mesages:
WriteRGBAPixelsBack() called.
WriteMonoRGBASpanBack() called.
WriteRGBASpanBack() called.
BGLView::CopyPixelsOut() not implemented yet!
BGLView::CopyPixelsIn() not implemented yet!
BGLView::CopyPixelsOut() not implemented yet!
BGLView::CopyPixelsIn() not implemented yet!
BGLView::CopyPixelsOut() not implemented yet!
BGLView::CopyPixelsIn() not implemented yet!
I have PHOS installed and compared files but didn't see which files were different.
We'll need some help from yt on this one.

| blender crashes on Zeta RC3 |

I use blender often just for fun under Zeta RC2.
But now I installed Zeta RC3 on a blank partition, made a link to the libpython2.2.so (and named it -of course- libpython1.5.so).
Blender does not say anything about a not found libpython1.5.so but it crashes. I only can see a black screen with the blender-startupscreen an some grids. A menu is also there, but nothing happens. Blender freezes completely.
Can anyone help me? Could it be that Zeta RC3 come along with a newly compiled libpython2.2.so and it crashes blender?
Thanks a lot for help,
Zephyr

Blender can be used on almost any modern system you are likely to use and performs well on all of them. I currently have it on 6 different OSes and it works the same on all, a real plus!
I was told when they were working on buying and opening up Blender that they'd like to see the BeOS version brought up to date, but couldn't justify the time/effort with so many other things on their plate at the time.
Things should be better for them now, so if you want it updated, buy the manual. That's how they support it's development. The older BeOS version + all the other OS versions are on the CD. The website is also a good place to learn more.
Get it, use it, talk about it, and let them know online that you are. Might help get you that update.

I have tried to build a table (4 extruded circles + 1 extruded plane).
Then, I added a plane under it - the floor. Since this step, I only can select the floor (using A or B keyboard shortcuts), like if the table did not exist. What happened? How do I select one leg of the table again?

You may be refering to the mouse over bug. Select the I for Information and turn off Tool Tips. Save with a Control U (User Preferances). If you really want to use the program try buying the manual there's great tutorials and tips.

I feel gratefull about you and the other people who contributed.
I am currently using Blender 2.11 under BeOS 5 in a AMD k6-2 (400Mhz) in VESA mode. I have no experience with this program, and I am just tring to learn a little of 3D modeling. It seems to work fine in my machine, even without a supported graphics card.
However, i notice that whenever I use a menu, it appers quickly in the screen, but it takes a while to disappear completely. It starts from the bottom-up. Do you have any idea about what does this happen?

you can get the source here:
http://www.blender3d.org/Download/?sub=Source
so if you're a proficient coder with time to spare, it can be built for ppc. I'm not sure how well blender will run without hardware 3d acceleration, though.
just in case you missed it, the sources are available because members (http://www.blender.org/openBlender/donations/list.php) and sponsors (http://www.blender.org/bf/goldsponsors.html http://www.blender.org/bf/silversponsors.html) donated to buy the source from NaN. €116285 was raised.
(if you search the member list for 'capoccia', you'll see my name)

Just trying to find out if anyone out there is actively working on compiling the source code for Blender. If not, then maybe someone or some few may be willing to start on it. If someone or some few are currently trying to compile, then maybe they could share their successes or failures with trying to get it running. I have several sequence plug-ins that I compiled from various sources that I use. I could contribute them. But I'm not sure how to go about loading them onto BeBits. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

aphex, I have blender 2.11, it came with the Max edition of beos. It did not have the libpython in it. So I simply copied them from the previous version, 2.04, to the installed version, 2.11. Does the 2.11 downloaded from bebits have the required libs? And does blender work right after install? Meaning does it have the proper libs? If yes then all is well, if not then I present a remedy. Cyber homapathy and the patient lives!

Download Blender 3d ver 2.04 and unzip it in empty file, it has both libpython 1.5 and the syimlink. Copy libpython 1.5 and the "dragme" symlink over to the directory where Blender 2.11 is installed. Drag libpython over to symlink, drop it there. Start Blender. Ya mon, it worked for me. :-))

Hi All,
Just wanted to touch base with the community on this app. Over the past year, Blender 3D has gone open source. They have just released the first updated open source version 2.26 at www.blender3d.org for all other OS's, except our beloved BeOS. It would be ashame to let this application go to the sidelines; especially since it is open source now. I don't know if anyone is actively keeping this up to date for our community; if no one is, then I hope someone(s) will take up the challenge for us. I'll download source code from their CVS; but, I'm not a coder, so I'm pretty lost when it comes to this stuff. hehe

blender seems to be hard-coded to an old version of libpython.so. If you have a more recent version of python loaded, just go to /boot/home/config/lib and make a symlink pointing to the new version of libpython.so. Name the link after the version of python that blender expects to find and things should work ok.
