One version of the driver can be downloded here:
http://users.bigpond.net.au/pcky/beos/es18xx.zip
It should be basically identical to Joe Wang's release which can be found on BeShare by searching for "audiodrive". Make sure it's version 0.43.

I fixed the audio in R5 by adding the following line to /boot/home/config/boot/UserSetupEnvironment -
export OVERRIDE_AUDIO_BUFFER_FRAME_COUNT=512
Other values you can try are 32, 64, 128, 256, 512, 1024, 2048.
You have to reboot for this to take effect. If it freezes your machine then reboot in safe-mode by pressing space during booting and disabling user add-ons in the safe-mode menu.
This information was garnered from the audio-buffers.zip file found on BeShare and http://www.b500.com/bepage/

| Anyone has a ES 1878 compiled version ? |

I'm looking for a version of this driver compiled
for an ESS 1878 sound chipset for a compaq aramada
(old) laptop.
I found one version but I suspect it to be compiled
for ESS 1879 : it works only when I restart the media
center otherwise I get a big noise, and it litterally
eats the CPU (I can't play a mp3 perfectly on a P166MMX !!
- with the VesaAccepted gfx driver in 800*600 16 bits.
If someone has an idea !!
Thanks a lot !!

I found somewhere a valid link for a compiled
version of the Audio Drive driver, but I guess
it was compiled for ESS 1879 and not ESS 1878 :
when BeOS starts, I get harsh and loud noises
instead of sounds, but when I restart the
sound system it seems to work.
BTW I played a 192 kpbs mp3 with the media player
on a P166MMX : the sound skips, 100% of the CPU
is used. It's strange ? Is it due to the fact
that the video card in not supported ? (I use the
Vesa 2.0 driver (forgot the name) in 800*600 16 bits)

Ive got no idea what this is related to but the last time i installed this driver it had problems with skipping and the like but when i converted to a dedicated BFS partition then the problems disappeared. Only had problems when running R5 PE under FAT32 ...
Apart from that this is a top notch driver. No problems once i sorted out hardware conflicts (need to disable the two useless hardware devices that are "recognised" when using an ess1868)

I've been using this driver, or version of it for about awhile. It was awesome in R4.5. Then I tried using it R5, and it works (for the most part) but it has some sound quality bugs. While playing any kind of movie or sound file in different application, the sound jitters and does some whack stuff. It the only driver available so I'm stuck with the bugs. I have a Gateway Solo 5150 Laptop and ESS 1879 sound card.

I just loaded Beos R5PE on my Sony PCG-505GX laptop, and despite the fact that Devices correctly identified the sound chip, nothing came out.
I loaded this driver, and it fired right up.
