The encoding-support is still a bit beta, but I have been in contact with Sergei Dolgov (fyysik) and he helped me with suggestions on how to make DarkSite more useful to Russian users...
However the encoding-support is still not finished, it is set to "Auto" by default, which detects the encoding by parsing the META-charset-attribute, but it may be missing in your page.
During summer I'll finally finish this work and other longstanding features I hope; in the meantime you should be able to select an encoding by hand immediately after opening the document, it will then be converted to that encoding (doesn't always work though).
You have to use the latest Beta for that to work, which is (still) on DarkSite's homepage.

I am russian native, and when I try to edit pages of my site (windows-1251 charset) by this app, it always shows strange squares appearing from nowhere and suddenly hiding again and again between and after russian letters(yeah, russian symbols displayed correctly, I install CyrFonts Pack of course, I'm not an idiot). And who can say what's this? For now only MOZILLA's composer can edit my pages correctly, but it is SLOOOOWWW and some functions are locked - like links and image editing, and more... (hmm, I will try Globe, maybe it works). WHO CAN MAKE APP FOR RUSSIAN USERS ???!

I'm very sorry that so much time has passed without another update - I guess I was just to lazy to package up another release;) and also I wanted to show off some more new things before doing another release.
This is esp. a bad coincidence now that Be, Inc. got out of business - this has not changed my motivation - of *course* I am still 100% behind my BeOS-efforts, and I'm very confident in OpenBeOS ( http://www.openbeos.org ).
The really cool new things just took (and take) more time than I anticipated, so no I could not post a new release.
I have been working on some (smaller) enhancements and fixes though and will put another version online *really soon*, please see DarkSite's homepage for further details.
Also watch out for the new ProjectManager, which should really prove useful when it's done - I regularly make available new preview-versions...
If you want to get into contact, there's a good chance you'll catch me on BeShare (my ident is Hugh), where I also post bleeding-edge preview-releases of my apps.

I remember earlier versions having problems with the "Find/Replace" option. This problem is now long gone (this was fixed quite a few revisions ago). I personally enjoy the application's simplicity, and it is very stable. This is a good HTML editor, and it's free.
This author is very responsive to user requests and debug information; in fact, here encourages it. He keeps actively improving/developing this application, so that's definitely a plus.
I would give this a higher rating, but there are a couple of things that are missing IMHO (e.g. some type of built-in viewable tree capability for the local root directory of the HTML files, an auto finish of tags).
All in all, it is worth the download!
