Last time I lookd, admittedly before Christmas, the tutorials for MUSCLE were all a bit out of date. Class names and functionality has changed somewhat since the BeNews articles. ANy chance of an update/new tutorial? I'm especially interested in using MUSCLE on multiple platforms (BeOS and WinXP for example) to simplify inter applicaton/computer communication. I struggled for a while using plain Windows and BCC5.5 and MinGW, but I really got nowhere because of the lack of documentation.

I'm definitley wanting to write some kind of program that utilises a MUSCLE server.... and not BeShare! I'm also working on some kind of windows BeShare version, seeing as Ozone has apparently died

For the custom welcome message, you'll need to compile and run the MOTDbot program, found at http://www.bebits.com/app/2498 Instructions are included with the archive.

Hey ssdouble... just running muscled with no arguments is enough for BeShare to use. There are two options that you might find useful though; if you add the keyword daemon, the muscled process will run in the background (so that it doesn't quit when you close the Terminal window), and if you can limit the maximum amount of RAM the server is allowed to use by specifying maxmem=megabytes. So, to run a muscled server in the background, that will never use more than 50MB of RAM, you could run: muscled maxmem=50 daemon

I downloaded both the executable for BeOS as the source code. But non of them had a 123guide.txt
I was thinking of setting up a BeShare server for our BeOS related website (www.beosaires.com.ar) at IP 213.96.206.14, and add a custom welcome message (rules and language spoken at the server).
I looked into the options when I type "muscle help" in the terminal, but help was bit short (I do have experience setting up a WEB server).
Would it be possible to tell me where I can find a simple guide, or could you add a example.txt for a pretty stardard configuration?

You guys are funny like castrated farm animals heh. Hey so here's my 2cents! Since there doesn't seem to be anyone using Muscled for anything other then BeShare Jeremy can A: dedicate it to just BeShare & possibly tighten thigns up a bit & make it more focused on the sharing app along with possibly connectivity to other sharing networks. or B: he should try to market it as the robust networking util is iZ. The more he shows off - promotes - & tries to get large 3rd party developers interested the more attention we will get & the OS will start to rebuild it's rep if we can approach 3rd party developers with proposals of secure & extreemly efficient networking. It may be wise to wait for the OBOS net_server since Bone is illegal & our normal net_server cant hold up well under heavy load but the idea is now out & you know what I meanZ's (meenzess) t a forward looking Idea... thats the ticket.. & my wife Morgan Fairchild... (damn she was ugly)

I think it's cool. So should you. And don't be dissing on Be developers. Be glad you've even got any left.

No offence to the LCS crew, and/or Jeremy, but I keep wondering when I see new updates to the muscle codebase.
How many people are using it for purposes other than a BeShare server?
Why all the interesting, and programmer-type updates such as ObjectClass this, MessagePool that, kind of stuff? Do clients that use muscle request these new methods?
Thanks... inquiring minds want to know.

MUSCLE take all the pain outful of so many painful things. I feel I must prostrate myself at his feet. If you ever want to do anything involving the internet (or many other things) go here.

Well, didn't you hear the latest news about Microsoft's plans to drop .NET and migreate to a Muscle System?

This is one awesome monster of a project. Who would have ever thought that BMessages could be sent across the internet? Sure, as soon as you saw BMessage::Flatten(), the idea popped into your head, but with MUSCLE, you not only get the beauty of organized, structured communication across TCP/IP, but the whole genius of the "muscled" server, support for so many different networking configs (peers, servers, muscled servers, etc.)!
I'd sum with by putting my money where my mouth is - I'm surprised Jeremy and LCS released this for free, and could easily see this being an awesome professional-level API in the big leagues / big bucks. Well, it certainly should be.
