Looks like a handy tool to replace printf and the terminal.

I find this tool very useful for working on my Translator add-on.

I have never written a Be App in my life. I decided that, most of all, I wanted to write a Translator add-on. From my work so far, I have not seen that debugging an add-on is quite like debugging a regular app - there is no console to output to (if there is, chalk my comment up to inexperience).

Nevertheless, BeDC is perfect for letting me debug my add-on. It took me less than a minute to unzip it, install the header, and add the code to my add-on to verify it works. Now I can get back to fixing the real problems and not messing with how to get debug output.

Elementary debug output, BeOS style

Although this may not have the crazy features nor functionality of Clue, it does meet most of my debugging needs in a C++ friendly format (big plus for those of us that never touched C). Its free, easy to work with and very lightweight.

Introduction to the Be Debug Console, BeDC. What you need and how to use it.

Installing BeDC is a one step process. Place the BeDC.h file some where in your include path. Using BeDC is almost as simple.

First off, you need to #include <BeDC.h>. Then create a BeDC object like: BeDC dc. There is a few options that you can pass to the constructor to set the message title and color.
To send a message from your code (it doesn't have to be a Be application, simple c source terminal style code can make use of BeDC as well!) simply call one of the member functions, i.e. SendMessage for a simple text message or SendFormat which gives you the same abilities as the printf function. There is Send___ functions for BPoint BRect int's and more. See the BeDC.h file for the complete list and what arguments they take. With most of the Send functions you can pass a color and state (such as failure, success) to make the message distinct.
A BMessenger is used to send the message to BeDC which must be running to receive your debugging messages. BeDC features multipple windows, drag and drop, and save to file. The easy way to save a selection of rows to a file is simply by dropping them on the Desktop, where a file will be created for you with your selection of rows added.
